Everyone
is invited to enjoy a look at Northeastern North Carolina local history in
a modern perspective with a reception on Friday, March 24, 2006 at 8:00
pm at the Elizabeth City State University Art Gallery as well as attend
the two-day art symposium "The Great Dismal Swamp in Myth and Memory"
on March 24 and 25, 2006.
The Gail and Ken Henshaw Collection by local artist Tunde Afolayan contains paintings inspired by the Great Dismal Swamp. The Collection will be on display in the ECSU Art Gallery from March 20th to March 30th, 2006 with the opening reception on this Friday night.

This symposium will allow
participants to examine local history and understand how it continues to play
a part in their lives today. The following topics are among the many exciting
events that will be taking place during this symposium:
A tour of the Dismal Canal will also be conducted on the morning of Saturday, March 25th for those who would like to get a guided look at this historical passageway.
The symposium is sponsored by Elizabeth City State University, in partnership with the Museum of the Albemarle, the Dismal Swamp Canal Visitors Center, and Port Discover: Northeastern North Carolina's Center for Hands-On Science.
